Our Journey: From an Idea to SEAS
The development of SEAS reflects persistence, collaboration and the shared desire to build a professional community.
The First Spark
The idea for an association emerged during the PERA Diamond Jubilee 75 gathering organised by the Peradeniya University alumni community. The proposal received strong and positive feedback from engineers, and work began on drafting a constitution.
A Pause in Progress
The initiative did not progress as planned because the group lacked a permanent official address and experienced mentors who could advise on the registration process.
Revival of the Initiative
The idea was revived during the second Peradeniya University graduates' family gathering. Senior members encouraged the initiative. Er. M. Sivakumaran offered office space for meetings and the proposed official address, while Dr. V. Ganeshan joined the initiative and helped mentor the team.
Building an Inclusive Association
Engineers from the University of Moratuwa also expressed interest. The initiative developed into a wider effort involving a 15-member core group drawn from the Peradeniya and Moratuwa communities.
Registration Application
The core group met regularly, discussed the association's purpose, finalised the constitution and submitted the registration application to the Registry of Societies.
Official Registration
SEAS was officially registered in May 2025.
Editorial note: The launch presentation records 29 May 2025 as the registration milestone and refers to the Registry of Societies accepting the application on 25 May 2025. The official milestone is presented as May 2025.
Official Launch
SEAS celebrated its official launch at Queen's Ballroom, Grand Link Square, Singapore, bringing its founding vision into public life.
What began as an idea shared among engineers developed into an association intended to unite professionals, encourage learning and build lasting community connections.
