Networking Sessions

Meaningful conversations. Shared experience. Stronger professional connections.

Networking sessions help engineers connect across organisations and disciplines.

Engineering is often described through technical skills, calculations, designs and projects. Yet professional relationships are also important to an engineer's growth. Conversations with people from different backgrounds can introduce new ideas, provide useful perspectives and help professionals understand opportunities beyond their immediate workplace.

The Sri Lankan Engineers Association, Singapore (SEAS), aims to create opportunities for engineers to connect, exchange experience and build a stronger professional and social community.

Connect Beyond Your Immediate Circle

Engineers can spend much of their working time with colleagues from the same organisation, discipline or project. Networking sessions provide an opportunity to meet people with different experiences and responsibilities.

A civil engineer may gain a new perspective from someone working in mechanical engineering, infrastructure operations or project management. An experienced professional may discover that an early-career engineer is exploring a challenge that they have encountered before. These exchanges can encourage learning and broaden professional understanding.

Share Knowledge and Experience

A meaningful networking session is more than exchanging business cards or contact details. It is an opportunity to discuss technical developments, industry experiences, career questions and practical lessons.

SEAS aims to promote knowledge exchange among members and create platforms where engineers can share expertise and discuss developments in academic and industrial fields. These conversations can help members learn from one another and identify subjects for future seminars, workshops and discussions.

Support Career Development

Professional relationships can help engineers understand different career paths, specialist areas and industry expectations. Networking can provide a setting in which members learn how others approached career transitions, developed new skills or adapted to changing responsibilities.

SEAS does not promise employment opportunities or career outcomes. Instead, it aims to provide a community where members can build relationships, exchange experience and learn about the wider engineering landscape.

Create a Supportive Community

For engineers who are new to Singapore or still building their professional networks, meeting people with shared backgrounds and interests can be particularly valuable. Friendly conversations may help members feel more connected and comfortable asking questions.

Networking also benefits established professionals, who can share their knowledge, learn from peers and identify ways to contribute to the development of others.

Strengthen Relationships Beyond Work

SEAS recognises the importance of community and member well-being. Appropriate social gatherings and family activities can help members develop friendships and strengthen their sense of belonging beyond their professional roles.

These relationships contribute to a community in which people can connect through shared interests as well as engineering.

Get the Most from a Networking Session

Members can prepare by thinking about what they would like to learn, introducing themselves clearly, asking thoughtful questions and listening to others. Following up on a useful conversation can help turn a brief introduction into an ongoing professional relationship.

Members can also contribute by sharing their own experience, proposing discussion topics and helping new participants feel welcome.

Through networking sessions, technical discussions and community activities, SEAS aims to strengthen collaboration, career development and meaningful connections among engineers in Singapore.
